Skeletal System
The skeletal system includes four parts: bones, joints, cartilage, and ligaments.
Bones
The bones have five functions: support, protection, movement, storage, and hematopoiesis.
The bones protect the brain, spinal cord, and organs. The bones are used as levers by the muscles. The bones stores fat and minerals. Blood formation in marrow keeps thebody in hematopoiesis.
Joints
The joints holds bones together and make the skelenton more flexible.
Deer Leg Dissection

When i did the deer leg dissection i used the front deer leg. The deer leg dissection was fun to do and very informative. With the deer leg you could see many ligaments and how they functioned to produce movement. We could not see these things in the rat.

Before skinning
After skinning
long tendon
ligaments that hold together bones of synovial joint
long bone

Compact bone
marrow cavity
longitudinal cut
epiiphyseal line
Cartilage
Cartilage is a flexible connective tissue and it's main function is to preventg bones from grinding together
Ligaments
Ligaments main function is to hold bones together and to help with movement
